Room by Room
The elegantly-styled ensuite ground-floor bedroom has a king-size bed with a firm but extremely comfortable mattress, microwave and coffee maker with sink and mini-fridge/freezer, and two wardrobes; one with full-length hanging space, one with drawers. A large picture window overlooks the tropical vegetation. The air-conditioning is effective and whisper-quiet and a top-of-the-range ceiling fan over the bed is remote controlled and silent. Directly outside the front door is a dedicated parking space suitable for a rental car or golf cart.

The bathroom has a generous, zero-entry walk-in shower with rainfall shower head and pebble floor, WC and granite vanity. A ceiling fan keeps the bathroom a lovely comfortable temperature.

A short concrete path leads to the elevated wooden pool deck. Here you will find an outdoor shower and two adjustable sun loungers with beach umbrella and large shade sail, when needed.

Steps lead down into a crystal-clear saltwater pool, which is 6ft deep on one side for swimming and floating in pool chairs, and 3ft deep on the other. The shallow side is designed for socializing, with two bar stools and a generous L-shaped conversation ledge. A wide concrete surround accommodates cocktails, snacks and books.

The pool temperature rarely drops below 80deg F and rises to the upper 90s in summer when the sun is on the water all day. A color-changing pool light and flickering tiki torchiere make for groovy night swims.

Adjacent to the pool at ground level is a covered and tiled patio with a built-in table and chairs, as well as two hanging hammock chairs, perfect for reading and napping. Consider this your outdoor living and dining room. Decorative concrete breeze blocks allow the Caribbean zephyrs to waft over you.

After dark, step down into the sheltered, white sand Tiki Grotto, furnished with teak clamshell chairs and sea grape log side tables. At night, the surrounding palm trees and tropical foliage are dramatically illuminated to maximize the tropical vibe.

Location

The Tiki Toucan Tropical Suite + Pool is located down a quiet, sandy cul-de-sac just off the main road, one mile north of the air strip and three miles north of Placencia village with its famously long and skinny sidewalk, picturesque shops, restaurants and bars. Seine Bight village is a mile to the north and has a large, modern grocery store and great street food.

The Tiki Toucan’s neighbors include a handful of private houses and The Flying Pig sports bar. The bar is open only from 5-9pm Monday to Friday and closed on the weekends.

Owner Patrick offers a short Mexican menu of bargain tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and burritos to a largely expat crowd and there is a host of different nightly activities: shuffleboard, darts, pool, music trivia, and karaoke (on Fridays). Full disclosure: the bar is very close to the property but is generally pretty quiet (except during karaoke!).

A rental golf cart is highly recommended for fully exploring everything this vibrant peninsula has to offer.

Resident (but timid) wildlife includes grey foxes, coatimundis and agoutis and a splendid selection of tropical birds enjoying the lush garden. You might meet one of the two pampered community cats.

Cancellation Policy: One hundred percent (100.00%) of the total booking charges will be refunded if the cancellation is made more than 30 days prior to the arrival date of the reservation. Fifty percent (50.00%) of the total booking charges will be refunded if the cancellation is made more than 15 days prior to the arrival date of the reservation. For cancellations made within 15 days prior to the arrival date, no refund will be issued. Grace period with free cancellation for 24 hours after booking if arrival is at least 24 hours away at time of booking.
